Justin Kennedy, a/k/a Gaston, is Parkway’s General Manager and Head Chef. He was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi, and helped revive Parkway in 2003 with his uncle Jay Nix. The rest is history:
“I went to school for business administration, but I don’t have a paper degree per se, right? I didn’t finish in a college, but you couldn’t take a college kid and teach him about this corner, you know… I’ve learned it all right here, from the back office to the making the food to dealing with customers, dealing with the public, with people skills. I mean, it’s a beautiful thing. I’m glad that it worked out that way. So I’ll say I don’t have a college degree with pride, you know, and I am not going back.”
In everything he does, Justin’s enthusiasm for the tavern and New Orleans is obvious:
Parkway’s GM works hard to support charitable efforts in New Orleans and beyond.
Justin Kennedy: Growing Parkway’s Legacy
Gaston’s passion and enjoyment for his craft shines through in his warm and joyful personality. It’s no surprise that his hard work has been well rewarded, as he has helped put Parkway on the map through multiple appearances on national television programs, including the popular Food Network show, Chopped, on their “Pride of New Orleans” episode.
Here is Justin talking about Parkway’s Thanksgiving poor boy with NOLA.com:
From his commitment for preserving New Orleans culture to his culinary innovations in the kitchen, Justin in many ways embodies the spirit of Parkway.
